The Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles Blue Pitcher is a classic example of vintage English transferware from one of Staffordshire’s most cherished potteries. Part of the iconic Old Britain Castles pattern introduced in the 1930s, this piece showcases blue-on-white transfer printed scenes of historic British castles, reflecting romantic architectural views inspired by 18th-century engravings.

Crafted in England from quality earthenware, the pitcher’s surface features finely detailed castle motifs — such as Ragland Castle or other celebrated British landmarks — surrounded by decorative borders that evoke the elegance of early 20th-century country house dinnerware.

This style is beloved by collectors for its timeless aesthetic and connection to British heritage. Old Britain Castles pieces were produced for many decades and are now discontinued, making original blue pitchers both functional serveware and desirable display pieces for lovers of transferware and vintage ceramics.
