Description

Stratton Carryall Vanity Case.  Pre Owned.  Value:  R1200

This lovely 1950’s Stratton carryall case is in good vintage condition.  It is completely intact with a powder compact, lipstick holder and comb.  The powder compact is clean with no residue powder but the mirror is slightly foxed.  The lipstick case is also clean and the comb has all its teeth.  The hinges work, the embroidered flap over clasp is in good condition and the gold tone case with an engine turned sunburst design on front and back is only slightly tarnished.  It has a blue velvet lined interior.

This vintage carryall or minaudiere (vanity case) is a highly collectible accessory popular from the 1930’s through the 1960’s.  The sunburst design is a classic hallmark of the Art Deco era and the mid-Century Modern movement (1950’s and 1960’s).  The flap design is in a ‘carryall’ style meant to look like a miniature clutch or purse.

Because it is completely intact (losing the original comb or lipstick tube is incredibly common), it holds great appeal for collectors.
