A chokin plate is a decorative plate from Japan that is made using the art of chokin which is an ancient Japanese art of metal engraving dating back to the 12th century. On top of etching copper, it is gilded with precious 24kt gold and silver. The engravings were originally created to decorate the armament of Samurai warriors.
