Crafted in Japan during the early to mid-20th century, this lidded sugar bowl exemplifies the artistry and craftsmanship that made Dragonware highly collectible worldwide. Both decorative and functional, it makes a beautiful display piece or an elegant addition to a vintage tea or coffee service.
Unusual, hard to find, and artistic, this 1950’s Japanese double handled sugar bowl is hand painted and designed with a dragon motif. It is finished with burnt orange highlights and spectacular gilding. The Moriage technique gives this piece a wonderful 3 dimensional look. Included with this sale is a small demitasse cup of the same design. Highly collectible.
The bowl is in excellent vintage condition. No cracks or flaws. There is a minute chip on the edge of the underlip of the lid which is not visible from the outside. The sugar bowl stands 13cm high (to top of lid) and is 14cm across from handle to handle.The cup stands 5.5cm high and is 6cm across.
A wonderful find for collectors of Japanese ceramics, Dragonware, or oriental-inspired vintage tableware.
