JAPANESE GINBARI CLOISONNE GINGER JAR

Japanese Ginbari Cloisonne Ginger Jar. Pre owned in excellent condition. value R1500

This ginger jar has a lovely deep translucent ruby red color.

The technique is known as Ginbari and involves several layers of enameling over a stamped or hammered silver foil base to create a deep shimmering pigeon blood red color.

This ginger jar has a hand-enameled cloisonne floral pattern of crysanthenums and cherry blossom on the front and a pressed foil bamboo shoot design on the back.

It has a bulbous body with a high shoulder and a matching fitted metal lid with a cloisonne bird enamelled on the top.

This jar is beautiful with no chips, cracks or damage.

The top and bottom silver rims are marked from use and age but can probably be polished off.

Altogether a lovely and unusual piece.
