It is in very, very good undamaged condition.
There are no chips, cracks, restorations, or staining and crazing is very minimal and light.
The glaze is still very lustrous. It is marked on the bottom as per the photo.
This stunning and unusual basket with handle was produced by Carlton Ware, England in the early 1930’s.
There is a lot of Carlton Ware around but not many baskets and certainly not in this condition.
The pattern is ‘Foxglove’ and a pretty spray of the bell-shaped flowers, executed in rose and pink shades on a pale yellow background, adorn a third of the basket’s interior.
The basket and pedestal are cleverly modelled as over-lapping pale yellow leaves, and the handle is fashioned as a twig with bits of the twig also woven into the base.
This piece measures 15cm high to the top of the handle, 26cm long from leaf tip to leaf tip and 19cm wide.
