This antique claret jug or carafe with a ribbed glass body and a silver plated hinged lid and handle.
A claret jug was historically used for serving red claret wine and often dated from the late 19th or early 20th century.
The handle, spout, lid and collar are silver plated and the elegant design with its tapering shape suggests a vintage aesthetic, possibly Art Nouveau or Victorian, popular for formal dining and entertaining.
It is in extremely good condition although the silver plate has largely worn off.
There are surface scratches to the base commensurate with age and use but no cracks in the glass.
The silver plated handle, collar and lid have no dents and the hinged lid is working perfectly.
The jug stands 29cm tall to top of lid and is 8.5cm in diameter.
