“Your ordinary acts of love and hope point to the extraordinary promise that every human life is of inestimable value.” – Desmond Tutu
In a non-profit organisation dedicated volunteer workers are of prime importance and play an integral part in the running of the organisation. Overstrand Hospice is very fortunate to have a group of committed and skilled volunteers who assist in a variety of ways across our operations.
These include:
- Helping with events
- Supporting our fundraising department
- Working in our shop
- Providing administrative support
- Assisting at reception
- Providing complimentary therapies
- Being a companion to a patient
- Assisting with bereavement support
As we highly value the contribution of our volunteers, we ensure that they receive the necessary training, skills and mentorship for the activities they undertake, so that they are able to perform their tasks competently, and with confidence. Volunteers that assist in the patient care department are required to complete the necessary training courses applicable to the scope of their support to the patient and the family.
(Training Courses – Click on training courses). Monthly meetings are also scheduled for further in-service training opportunities, and for feedback concerning the patients and families, they are supporting.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for Overstrand Hospice and have the time available, and skills to share, you are welcome to contact our offices for a preliminary interview with our volunteer coordinator.
