This vintage Murano sommerso “geode” bowl in aqua and ruby is a mid-century modern Italian art glass piece.
It features a vibrant ruby-red inner core encased (“submerged”) inside a thick outer layer of clear and aqua blue-green crystal, often styled as a heavy catchall or desk ashtray.
The Sommerso technique layering different colors of glass within clear glass—is a signature of mid-century Venetian glassmaking.
Perfect as:

The bowl is in very good age related condition with two under surface blemishes on the outer rim.
These marks are not considered cracks and are not sharp to the touch.
They do not detract from the piece in any way.
