This is an antique candle snuffer and wick trimmer featuring an ornate hand chased pattern.

It is a 17th-19th century scissor-like tool featuring an attached small box to catch clipped wicks and three tiny peg legs under.

Silver plated snuffers existed in the Victorian and Georgian era.

These dual-purpose tools prevented smoke and mess before modern self-trimming wicks existed.
Antique used condition with visible red bleeding showing the copper underneath, tarnish, scratches, and rubbing from age and use.

No readable maker’s mark found but it was entirely normal for Old Sheffield Plate to have no marks.

The spring action opens and closes, and the snuffer/wick box mechanism works.
This candle snuffer is believed to be original Old Sheffield Plate because of the copper base rather than EPNS (electro plated nickel silver).
