This handmade Javanese Stick rod Theatre Puppet costumed hand stick works by holding a central hand carved wooden rod that is used by the puppeteer to turn the head.
You could make a wooden base to allow the puppet to stand on its own. The head is carved from one piece of wood, with an impressive head dress and intricately painted in superb colourful detail. Its arms are string hinged, with bent hands expressing a dance motion and are controlled with hand-held carved sticks.
The puppet is in good used condition with some wear consistent with its age. There are some paint scuffs that may have been touched up. The batik cloth is original and most likely reused from traditional old clothing. It is discoloured but in tact. There are a few missing sequins. Sold as is
